PACT POW ramps up campaign to stop algae “grow-op” on the Ajax waterfront

Citizen group sees provincial election as opportunity to push for environmental clean up

May 26, 2014 – Pickering Ajax Citizens Together to Protect Our Water (PACT POW) outlined to Ajax Council tonight its campaign that calls for an Ajax waterfront clear of nuisance algae. The campaign will engage Ajax-Pickering provincial election candidates and voters before election day on June 12, 2014.

Regions have filed their preferred solution for the Outfall

York and Durham have completed their environmental assessment of the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant Outfall and filed their environmental study report with the Minister of the Environment. Read more

PACT POW declares Efforts a Success despite Regions deftness

On Wednesday October 30th PACT POW (Pickering Ajax Citizens Together – Protecting Our Water) along with over 200 Residents of Ajax and Durham Region listened to York and Durham Regions choice alternative of dilution as the solution, to accommodate future increased volumes of treated sewage into Lake Ontario.  The decision on the alternative was part of an Environmental Assessment of the Outfall pipe at the Duffins Sewage Treatment Plant  to ensure the plant complies with Provincial regulations, regulations that are over 20 yrs. old.
